We all have a curtain of shame. We are human, imperfect beings with imperfect life experiences, some joyful and others painful.
Behind that curtain of shame lies our shadows, our fears. Fears of inadequacy, fears of not belonging. It can feel like we live in A Culture of Shame.
We don't want to talk about that curtain, we would much prefer to pretend that it doesn't exist.
To keep others from seeing that curtain, we create our bouncer, our ego, that persona designed to shield others from that curtain. The greater the pain behind that curtain, the larger an ego persona we create.
For us to pull back the curtain, and certainly for others to pull back that curtain with us, is an act of excruciating vulnerability. It takes Courage. It takes trust.
But behind that curtain, there are not only our fears but also our greatness.
