Speed of Now

Some years back, I was helping the Oregon National Guard to better address the needs of solders that were coming off of deployments in Iraq and Afganistan, recognizing that many had suffered from trauma that would make re-integration with their home-life difficult.

While we were setting up our research infrastructure, the Colonel in charge of this mission was continually amazed how quickly my team was able to define and create necessary solutions.

Our speed, he would tell me, was unheard of within his military experience.

He called it, with great appreciation, "The Speed of Now". A lovely term. And very apt.

For, at the core of Agile is the ability, moment to moment, to define a problem, come up with a potential solution, and create it, and then reflect on what was learned.

The faster you can this cycle the greater the speed in which new value could be delivered. This iterative process is called Learning Cycles.
