There are many schools that model a creative learning environment. High Tech High and others come to mind. But the vast majority of them are either charter or private schools. Schools that were built from the ground up with a new paradigm of learning.
The problem is that about 90% of our students in this country are in traditional public schools. The challenge of _transforming a public school from a conventional teaching institution to a dynamic learning organization_ is far more difficult than simply building a new one from scratch. There are many internal and external barriers to change that challenge almost every step. It is a hard road, but an essential one.
That is the transformation that Jami set about to do in Dayton. She committed to sharing her path as a framework that might guide others in this process. A commitment for Dayton to become a Positive Deviant for other school districts.
