What Michelle was experiencing was something new. She was not in control of their learning; she was observing it. By doing so, she could gently support and guide it.
This model of leading a learning journey was fundamentally different from traditional teaching.
Our responsibility was to define a clear intention for the learning and then empower the students as learners. From there we had to support that process.
This experience is at the core of Agile. Leaders do not control. They define the purpose, remove impediments, and enable teams to achieve an experience of Flow. In this way, agile management, is, at its best, an experience of Wu Wei.
